Since 2007, the Junior Leaders Field Gun competition has enabled young men and women between the ages of 16 to 24, both within the Armed Forces and from the wider civilian community, to develop their self esteem, personal discipline, fitness, and team work ethic.

This fantastic event continues to grow in popularity from 5 crews in 2007 to 17 crews of 340 young people in 2010.

In addition to the Armed Forces crews, teams include the competition sponsors Network Rail, Sea Cadets, representatives from British Universities and Colleges, BAE Systems, and the Prince's Trust.  The drill is modified from the Royal Navy Field Gun competition but the same traits are required of courage, commitment, discipline, respect for others, integrity, and loyalty.

Everyone associated with Junior Leaders recognise the incredible developmental benefits it offers.  The Junior Leaders competition is the centrepiece of the Network Rail apprentice scheme graduation ceremony and it is therefore fitting that the Network Rail team were victorious in 2010. The 2011 Junior Leaders competition will take place on Friday 10 June at HMS COLLINGWOOD with more crews than ever anticipated to enter.

Junior Leaders is not only a great way of introducing young men and women to Field Gun, it also provides an opportunity to train future generations of passionate volunteer trainers, judges, and time keepers that the Royal Navy Field Gun competition relies upon.

If you are interested in getting involved as a trainer, judge, or time keeper then please do not hesitate to contact WO1 Glen Young on 02392 724132; the future of Field Gun relies upon volunteers like you.
