Navy Fencing hosted an Invitational Competition at HMS Temeraire on Saturday 4 February.
As with the event in Bristol the aim of the competition was to give experience to intermediate and novice fencers and so the competition runs with no entry fee and while ensuring that correct equipment is worn on the piste,we are less stringent about spare equipment. This is one of four events run on similar lines in various parts of the country.
Running pools of teams at foil and epee, there were 7 foil teams and 4 epee teams involved. The event also gave us an opportunity to see two fencers new to the Naval Service, a young Royal Marine, Ed Hill, and a young AB, Fred Noakes who have both just completed their initial training. Both provide great promise for the future. It also enabled another young Marine to gain his first experience of fencing.
The remaining two in the series for this year are Devon (Apr) and Newcastle (May).
