Looking for a little more excitement why not try out racing in one of the competitions being held at the centre in 2012. You do not need racing experience to compete as people of all levels take part from newly qualified to advanced sailors but all with the mentality that sailing here is fun and to be enjoyed. We are also looking for people from local establishments to rally there troops to take part in the C in C’s inter-establishment cup check below to learn more.

Commander and Chiefs Cup 16/MAY

Weather a barmy 13 Degrees Sunny, Wind SW Force 3 (10 - 12mph).

The Final ever C in C’s Cup race was raced this year on the 16th of May in Portsmouth Harbour the Conditions were as close to perfect as could be wished and with 26 boats from 14 teams the competition was always going to be hotly contested.

The race started of the Bows of HMS Bristol with consent from QHM giving the racers the chance to sail around marks placed in the main channel towards the main entrance (Kings Stairs). The dinghies were to then sailing north finally rounding a west cardinal up Porchester Channel before returning to the finish line off RNSC.

The Start saw all boats on Starboard with a clean get away, and after the first long windward leg the fleet choosing to use the all sides of the course Bosun 6 (Ian Jackson, Liam Pearson) first closely followed by the Bosuns from HMS Blazer, DFOST and C4ISTAR. The course took a heading towards the Spinnaker Tower and the Harbour entrance and on rounding the King Stairs Buoy found the fleet starting to break into 3 clear groups with teams fighting for positions in all areas.

Although one boat from each team was spinnaker rigged the first long Run down Porchester saw only a couple of spinnakers being used most preferring to keep it calm and collected. Positions in all groups changed rapidly and in the first pack Bosun J (McGhee, Linderman) was clearly going to round the courses furthest mark first however after using his spinnaker from 10th place R Spalding and T Bosustow in 2 managed to pull up to second closely followed by 6 and 3 (Tristan Cooper and Katrina Duxury). Again the long legs around the harbour took its toll on the positions with many changes occurring having now snapped his Tiller R Spalding after hastily jury rigging a rope extension lost his 2nd place dropping back into 7th on the windward leg where he stayed till the finish. Bosuns G (Goldman, Maddison), J, I. Moved through to the top three spots which didn’t change till the end.
